Bison farming is hard work. Ok...so we have beautiful land that has luscious grass that will be a wonderful food source for majestic bison. That's great, but until we have bison eating all of this wonderful grass, someone has to mow it. That's where Shane comes in.
Last week Shane took our old--but trusty--tractor out on our farm to mow down the tall grasses in preparation for the spring season. Our new South Jersey land has incredibly strong grasses that will provide a great food source to the first bison herd in South Jersey since...well, maybe ever. Mowing this grass, even with a strong tractor, takes multiple days. The grass had grown very high when we purchased it, but if we stay on top of it, we should be able to reduce the time.
Clearing the land is our first step toward getting the farm set up for bison. Next, we need a way to drive in and out of the farm, so we'll be busy clearing a road and laying some gravel to drive on. We'll try to post pics to keep you all informed.
Thank you for following along on our journey and supporting us by purchasing our premium, dry-aged bison meat. We have a great selection of premium cuts, as well as some prepared dishes like our new bison chili. Check back often to follow our bison farming adventure.
